Michael Covington is the author of Astrophotography for the Amateur and co-author of the Cambridge Eclipse Photography Guide, as well as several books and numerous articles about computers, electronics, and linguistics. An avid stargazer for more than thirty years, he especially enjoys deep-sky observing with small to medium-sized telescopes.
Michael has degrees in linguistics from The University of Georgia, Cambridge, and Yale, and is now associate director of The University of Georgia's Artificial Intelligence Center, where he does research on computer modeling of human thought and language.
His other interests are very wide-ranging. They include electronics and amateur radio (for five years the wrote the "Q&A" column in Poptronics Magazine); ancient languages (he translates Byzantine Greek hymns, has read Copernicus' De Revolutionibus in the original, and can correctly form the genitives of all 88 constellation names in Latin); philosophy, and theology.
