Low Country Stargazers is a diverse group of amateurs who enjoy promoting astronomy in the Charleston SC area. With a wide range of experience in visual observing to CCD imaging, if you have a peculiar desire to know more about astronomy, chances are someone here can help. We work with several organizations in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties including: The College of Charleston, Local Schools (Public and Private) along with various girl and boy scout troops just to name a few.

The BBAA's motto is "Bringing Astronomy to the People of Hampton Roads" and we have many events throughout the year to advance that goal. On "Astronomy Day" we team up with the Virginia Beach Public Library to celebrate astronomy. Our members set up filtered telescopes to view the sun and the moon, and take the opportunity to talk to library patrons about our hobby. We do many events throughout the year with the Departments of Parks and Recreation for Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. We also are building a relationship with the Norfolk Botanical Gardens and have done several evening events we call "Gardenstars". You'll often find our members at the local planetariums too, where we set up telescopes and interface with the public.

Welcome to the AstronomyOutreach network!

This organization was formed at the turn of the century as a free service to popularize and recognize individuals and organizations committed to the educational public outreach (EPO) in astronomy and space science. Here on this wiki you can learn how to get involved to help people in your community understand the wonders of the sky and the importance of science in our everyday lives by sharing your knowledge and telescope with the public.

Back Bay Amateur Astronomers

The Back Bay Amateur Astronomers is a group of amateur astronomers drawn together by a common interest in observational astronomy. The society was founded December 14, 1978 by members devoted to teaching the many aspects of observational astronomy.

Lecture Referral Service

Shelley Bonus at Mt. Wilson Observatory

AstronomyOutreach network offers a free lecture referral service for public educators in astronomy. While we do not accept compensation for the referral, we do work with the speakers and the organizers who wish to invite them to lecture to arrive at a fair honorarium that works for both parties if requested. Requests for speakers to give live online lectures or in-person lectures should be prepared to provide travel (if required), expenses, and an honorarium paid in advance.
