San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers
From AstronomyOutreach network
The San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers was co-founded in 1968 by John Dobson. The organization with their mission to give everyone have a chance to see the Universe as it actually is, offers telescope making classes and free-for-the-public star gazing events.
Their "sidewalk" events take place place within the city, in populated areas with lots of traffic. The emphasis is to show bright objects (Sun, Moon, planets), in order that the public can gain a better understanding of the universe.
