Oceanside Photo & Telescope Astronomical Society (OPTAS) is an organization formed to provide education, guidance, and experience to amateur astronomers. It is sponsored by Oceanside Photo & Telescope, an organization widely known for it's history of educational programs in astronomy, and is open to the general public.

With our knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff available at each OPTAS function, we can provide answers to all of your astronomy questions, from star and constellation identification to astrophotography and CCD imaging. We actively encourage membership by beginners as well as experienced astronomers.

Part of the joy of astronomy is the sharing of discovery. At the very least OPTAS provides an opportunity to get away to our dark sky site in the beautiful Anza-Borrego Desert once a month to share your astronomical experiences with others.

Benefits of OPTAS Membership:

  • Toll Free Club Information at (800) 483-6287
  • Fellowship of other Amateur Astronomers at a Dark Sky Site
  • Substantial discount on Sky & Telescope and/or Astronomy magazine(s)
  • Arc Minutes, An Informative and Fun Quarterly Newsletter
  • 10% Discount on all Astronomical Accessories Purchased at OPT
  • Rental and Loan of Astronomical Equipment
  • Inside Tour of Palomar Observatory
